Host a Competition
Visit our Participating Cities tab to determine if your city already holds an annual Canstruction competition in which you can participate.
If there is not a participating city within 50 miles of your location, please Contact Us to inquire about hosting a competition in your city.
Our goal, in addition to providing thousands of pounds of food to hungry people, is to put a spotlight on the design and construction industry giving back to the communities they help to design and build. Architects, engineers, designers and/or contractors participate either by entering competing teams from their firms or by mentoring teams of students, local businesses, clubs or civic organizations. We also encourage schools and civic organizations to host a Canstruction competition in conjunction with the design and construction professionals located in their city.
Competition Organizer Responsibilities
- Finding a location to hold the competition
- Recruiting teams to compete and qualified judges
- Advertising the event
- Hosting an award ceremony for the winners
- Coordinating with local food banks to receive the food raised
- Submitting all competition results to Canstruction, Inc.
- Encourage the public to bring a can of food as event admission
Membership Dues
Each city organizer is sent a promotional kit after signing the Canstruction Charter Agreement and remitting your annual participation fee. If your city has never held a Canstruction competition the participation fee is $350 (includes one time setup fee) for the first time you host an event. For every year that your city hosts a competition thereafter, the annual registration fee is $250. The kit includes the official competition manual containing rules and regulations and a “Blueprint”, which is a step by step guide for organizing a successful competition. Organizers also receive a CD with the official Canstruction graphic branding templates, 200 color brochures, 50 presentation folders, and six (6) award statues which are shipped at the time of the actual competition (shipping costs not included).
Your city’s event is posted on this Website under the Participating Cities tab. You will also receive a login name and password where you will have access to other Members Only tools which provides additional mentoring throughout the competition.
Canstruction® is a trademarked community service project of the Society for Design Administration (SDA). The event is organized in affiliation with local chapters of the American Institute of Architects and other professional associations of the design and construction industry.
No person or organization may produce a Canstruction® competition or event without the express permission of Canstruction®, Inc.
