Canstruction Raises 2.5 Million lbs of Food in 2010-2011

09/06/2011 – Despite the continued difficult economic times, Canstruction Competitions continue to supply local food banks and partnering agencies with steady food donations.

Canstruction, Inc announced today that local competitions donated a new record-breaking total of over 2.5 million pounds of non-perishable food raised for the 2010-2011 competition year, equating to 1,869,808 meals to help local food banks, pantries, soup kitchens and local charities around the world.

Not only did these donations help restock community food banks and pantries, they also pushed total donations collected since the drive began 19 years ago to an astounding total of 17.5 million pounds!

However, in these difficult economic times, the need for donations is greater – particularly the need for food donations. Through the generosity of our volunteers, industry professionals and sponsors, Canstruction is working hard to fill that growing need in the many communities served by our 186+ participating cities.

Canstruction's Toronto, Canada Chapter collected 89,425 pounds to take top honors among the 89 participating cities this year. Toronto also received honors for being the highest grossing 3rd party event in 2009 and 2010 for the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank. While our Toronto Chapter was able to score the highest in pound counts our Chicago Chapter collected an unheard of  $55,315 along with the 61,213 pounds of food donated from the event, totaling to an estimated 266,558 meals for the Chicago Food Depository.

Thank you Canstruction supporters for all your donations and help spreading the word about Canstruction effort to combat hunger. Without each of you this record-breaking effort would not have been possible!

Of course our work is far from done. Make sure to stay tuned for more Canstruction news!
